Chennai, September 04: The MRF MMSC fmsci Indian National Motorcycle Racing Championship 2025 has provided dramatic twists and turns so far and the trend is likely to continue in the third round as the country’s top two-wheeler racers and manufacturers return to the Madras International Circuit here after a two-month gap for three days of exciting action commencing on Friday, September 05.
A card of 21 races across the six National Championship categories, besides the Petronas TVS One-Make Championship and the Idemitsu Honda India Talent Cup, has been scheduled with 162 riders, representing 18 teams, in the fray even as the battle for championship points heats up.
The ongoing season has seen a new generation of young riders from across India, hailing from diverse backgrounds and cultures, igniting the championship like never before. Victory and defeat have been separated by fractions of a second, that accurately depict the closeness of the contests up and down the grids.
A significant development this season has been the participation of riders from the North-East region of India, courtesy support from the local motorsports associations and the teams they are riding for and who have delivered note-worthy performances. Two 22-year-old riders from Aizawl, Mizoram, Lal Nunsanga (Motul Sparks Racing) and Daniel Lalhriatkima (Yakuza Racing India), won a race apiece at Coimbatore round last month in the highly competitive Novice (Stock 165cc) class which has grids of 25 or more. So much so, both are in contention for the championship in this category.
“There is a lot of interest and following for motorsport in the North-East region and some events are organised for locals. It is expensive to come from our hometown to Chennai and participate in the races. But our local associations and the teams help us by funding travel and stay. We are very grateful for this assistance,” said Lal Nunsanga in a recent interview with Daniel Lalhriatkima echoing the views.
Headlining the weekend card is the double-header in the premier class, the Pro-Stock 301-400cc Open which has a great mix of youth and experience, but dominated by two riders, championship leader 27-year-old Rahil Pillarisetty (RACR Castrol Power1) from Hyderabad and Pune teenager Sarthak Chavan (Petronas TVS Racing) who is second on the leaderboard. Both have won two races apiece in four starts.
Bengaluru’s 18-year-old Savion Sabu (Mad Rabbit Racing), unbeaten in all three starts so far, heads the Pro-Stock 165-200cc Open category while Hyderabad’s Mohammed Samrul Zubair (Motul Sparks Racing) leads the newly created category, the Super Stock Intermediate Up to 165cc after a win and P2 finish and Bengaluru’s Varun Patil (Mad Rabbit Racing) tops the Stock 301-400cc (Novice) class following two wins in four outings.
The situation in the Stock 165cc (Novice) is tight with seven riders, headed by Hyderabad’s Rajender Beedani (MAI Racing) and CS Kedarnadh (Motul KTM Gusto Racing India), are within touching distance of each other.
Defending champion in the Girls (Stock 165cc) category, Chennai’s Jagathishree Kumaresan (One Racing) with a double in Coimbatore leads former champion Ann Jennifer (Motul Sparks Racing), both having won two races each.
Jagathishree also leads the points table in the Women’s category of the Petronas TVS One-Make Championship, followed by Mumbai’s Sarah Khan while Chennai’s Mohan Babu and Hari Haran (Coimbatore) head the Expert (Apache RR 310) and Rookie (Apache RTR 200), respectively.
Chennai’s Solomon R enjoys a slender advantage over Tejash BS (Tumakuru) in the Idemitsu Honda India Talent Cup (Honda CB 300F).
